Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a serious condition that significantly reduces patients’ quality of life and increases risk for a multitude of complications, including colorectal cancer.

Unfortunately, there is often a long delay between the onset of symptoms and final diagnosis by a specialist. As most patients with IBD initially present to primary care, these clinicians play a critical role in recognizing the clinical picture of IBD and referring appropriate patients to specialists for further evaluation and management.
